<p>1) Reset your synchronisation history</p>

<p>According to “The Loop”, an Apple spokesperson said:</p>
<p><strong><em>“A small number of customers have reported lower than expected battery life on iOS 5 devices,&#160;&#160; We have found a few bugs that are affecting battery life and we will release a software update to address those in a few weeks.”</em></strong></p>
<p>In the meantime, people are reporting improved battery life by disabling “Setting Time Zone” (Settings&gt;Location Services&gt;System Services).</p>

<p>Some people are putting this down to the new notification system included in iOS 5, however we’ve been unable to confirm this so far.   The problem appears to only affect some users though, with others even reporting better battery life?</p>

<p>Apparently many people are losing apps, music and photos during the upgrade process.</p>
<p>Make sure that you run a complete backup via iTunes before installing this update, and if possible take your own copy of the iTunes files before running the install.</p>
<p>We’ll update this post with further news and suggestions as we here them.</p>

<p>Turns out there’s an easy fix though:</p>
<p><strong>Go into Settings, General, then “Reset Home Screen Layout”</strong></p>
<p>You should now have a working phone icon again!</p>
<p><strong>Update</strong>: Several reports suggest checking <strong>Settings, General, Restrictions</strong> as this may also disable the phone icon.   More details on restrictions here:</p>

<p><strong>Update 2</strong>: Another tip reported &#8211; double tap the home button and look for the icon in the tray at the bottom of the screen.   You can then drag it back from there.</p>
