Firefox Warning: Unresponsive Script – FIXED!

April 8th, 2010 admin

Are you seeing the following error when using Firefox:

If so, it could be due to a feature which was added to Firefox in version 1.5.    The feature limits the time allowed for a script to run – the idea being that a rogue script will be terminated before it can affect the running of the browser.

However, you have the option of extending the allowed run time of a script using the following method:

  1. In the firefox address bar – type about:config and press return.
  2. Find : dom.max_script_run_time and then double click on the line to edit the timeout value
  3. Hit OK, then restart Firefox

“Edit the timeout value”… to what?

I’ve seen this ‘fix’ elsewhere which suggests a value of 20. And yet I still get this warning several times a day.

Ruining my previously good impression of Firefox.
