Are you having trouble backing up you iPhone using iTunes?   If it’s hanging at step 2 of 5, this solution may work for you too:

1) Reset your synchronisation history

2) Delete all previous backups (C:\users\<username>\AppData\Roaming\Apple Computer\MobileSync\Backup)

3) Right click on command prompt and select “Run as Administrator”

4) run the command “netsh winsock reset”

5) As always, finish with a reboot!

If you take a look around the Bell Canada site, there is no longer any sign of Windows 7 Phones?   In fact if you search for WP7 – you end up with a link to the HD7, however this results in the following message:

So what’s happening?    There appears to be a general lack of interest between Canadian carriers to support the platform, who instead are focusing on iPhone, Android and RIM?

Take a look in retail stores and there are little or no signs of any Windows Phone 7 devices.   The only units I’ve found have been mislabelled as running Android!

So are the carriers finally dropping support for Windows Phone 7, or simply clearing stock ready for the imminent arrival of Mango devices?

Nokia has stated that they’ll be bringing WP7 Mango devices to Canada in 2012, however there’s no confirmation on dates, carriers or models yet?     How long will consumers be wiling to wait for WP7 before giving up and going with a different platform?

Are Microsoft and the device manufacturers going to miss their window of opportunity to establish a WP7 Mango presence in the Canadian mobile marketplace?

Just came across this error when running Windows Update on a fresh install of Server 2008 R2.    Not a good start!

Initial suggestions pointed to the system date/time which was indeed incorrect, however after fixing (and even rebooting just in case) the error still appeared?

Turns out you need to update the root certificate for the machine first!   You can download the update for this from the following Microsoft URL:

http://www.microsoft.com/download/en/details.aspx?displaylang=en&id=5397

Once downloaded, double click on the file to install.   There’s no feedback to say it’s run successfully, but Windows Update suddenly springs back into life..

Now downloading the first 30 updates of many probably!…

If you’ve been suffering short battery life on your iPhone since upgrading to iOS 5, you’ll be relieve to know that Apple has acknowledged the problem and promised to release an iOS 5.0.1 fix within a few weeks.

According to “The Loop”, an Apple spokesperson said:

“A small number of customers have reported lower than expected battery life on iOS 5 devices,   We have found a few bugs that are affecting battery life and we will release a software update to address those in a few weeks.”

In the meantime, people are reporting improved battery life by disabling “Setting Time Zone” (Settings>Location Services>System Services).

New reports are starting to appear on Twitter that the recent iOS 5 update is having detrimental effects on iPhone battery life.

Some people are putting this down to the new notification system included in iOS 5, however we’ve been unable to confirm this so far.   The problem appears to only affect some users though, with others even reporting better battery life?

Searches for iOS Battery have certainly increased this month on Google as you can see in the chart below:

It looks like the WiFi stability problems are still happening on OS X Lion, even though there have been reported fixes under the 10.7.1 and 10.7.2 patches.

I’ve taken a look at the latest 10.7.2 WiFi related tweets and here are the results:

So it looks like in general, most people are still seeing WiFi related problems with OS X even after the 10.7.2 update.

Looks like Apple are struggling to keep up with demand for iOS 5 updates today!

If you’re receiving the message “internal error” or “3200”, it’s due to Apple’s servers not coping with the demand.

In fact error 3200 is now trending on Twitter as so many people are reporting the problem.

You can keep re-trying the update and maybe get through, or wait until later when things have calmed down a bit.

Don’t forget – run a backup before updating as some people are reporting lost apps having updated today.

Lots of people on Twitter are currently reporting issues when upgrading to iOS 5 which was released by Apple today.

Apparently many people are losing apps, music and photos during the upgrade process.

Make sure that you run a complete backup via iTunes before installing this update, and if possible take your own copy of the iTunes files before running the install.

Apple have just announced that they’ve released the v10.7.2 patch for OS X.    The major feature in this update is support for iCloud, however there are a number of fixes too.

Commenters are still reporting problems with WiFi and OS X, however one of the fixes mentioned in the release notes is:

“Address an issue that may cause a delay in accessing the network after waking from sleep”
