Google Releases Asynchronous Analytics Tracking

May 20th, 2010 admin

Last week Google announced that the asynchronous tracking tag which has been in beta testing is now officially available.

Yesterday they updated the Google Analytics interface to support this new style tag when you’re adding tracking to a new website.

This should bring asynchronous tracking to many more sites – improving both results and page loading speed.

You can find further details and instructions on setting up the new tracking code at the Google Analytics Blog

Google To Allow Users To Opt-out Of Analytics Tracking!

March 18th, 2010 admin

Wow – didn’t see that one coming!

Google have announced today that they’re planning a browser opt-out for users to block being tracked by Google Analytics. Unfortunately they didn’t really give much away, such as how they’re going to promote this, so it’s difficult to see what impact this may have on statistics.

If the opt out becomes widespread it will definitely harm the value of implementing Analytics.   Maybe log based analytics will become more prominent?

Here’s the announcement from Google.

Avinash Kaushik Discussing Analytics at SES 2010

February 26th, 2010 admin

Here’s another superb video showing Avinash Kaushik from Google discussing Analytics at SES London 2010.

Only Avinash could bring such humour and passion to the subject of Analytics!   His example of using analytics to persuade his wife that she should let him blog at midnight instead of going to bed is classic!

Favorite quote “These are keywords I need to make love to because they make me so much money”!
