Google Taking Streetview Into Businesses

April 23rd, 2010 admin

As rumoured earlier, Google are now taking the Streetview cameras into businesses.   The idea being that you can now check out the inside a shop or a restaurant etc before actually visiting them.

Google have announced that they have professional photographers ready in 30 major cities across the US, Australia and Japan.   They also state that they’ll be rolling out to other countries soon.

The photographers will take panoramic shots within the business premises which will then be uploaded to Streetview.

Google adds that the idea isn’t new – because businesses have had the opportunity to upload their own photographs before.

You can see which cities are covered and further details of the roll-out in the Google Announcement.

McAfee Machines Hit By Faulty Update

April 22nd, 2010 admin

If you’re using McAfee Anti-Virus protection – you want to watch out for update 5958 as it could corrupt your windows installation.

The update – released yesterday, falsely identifies a virus in a file called svchost.exe which is crucial to the operating system.    The result is that the file is mistakenly deleted, which means the PC can no longer boot!

McAfee say that they’ve now removed the update from their server to stop the damage from spreading further.

The official company blog has a post about the problem.

If you already have the update and have seen a detection warning for w32/wecorl.a DO NOT RESTART YOUR PC!    Instead refer to the following article to repair your PC:

Looks like there currently isn’t a fix if your PC has been booted – we’ll update this post if we hear of one.

Eastlink Say Twitter Problem Fixed

April 20th, 2010 admin

We’ve just had an email from Eastlink reporting that the issue users have seen with Twitter had now been fixed.

The cause of the issue was apparently a routing problem for certain IP pools.

We’re still collecting the results of the survey from the last post, but if you’re still having problems, Eastlink Support recommend that you contact them and report your IP address.
