Outlook Safe Mode

June 18th, 2009 admin

Quick tip – if you want to start MS Outlook (or in fact any office program)  in safe mode – hold down the ctrl key when clicking on the icon to start it:

Useful if debugging problems with programs starting.

UCEProtect – Argh!

June 16th, 2009 admin

Although I think the fight against spam is a valid one (and never ending), I really think UCEProtect have taken it a step too far.

Their premise is that if your server is on a subnet which has other spam sending servers on it then you should be blocked too?

What?!?

I’ve just had a perfectly good server blocked because someone else with an IP address close to mine sent some spam.  Ridiculous!

What makes it even worse – is that they want to charge 150 Euros to delist – what a scam!

So in the end, I’ve had to move mail to a different IP address which isn’t getting blocked.

Why did they remove telnet from Vista?

June 13th, 2009 admin

The last post reminded me..

Try and run telnet on vista and you’ll be greeted with a “command not found” :-(

It’s easiyresolved – can be added using programs and features (yup – premove programs with a different name).

But why has it been removed?  I can’t see it as a security flaw? A telnet “server” – yes, but a telnet client??

At least it’s still in there somewhere….
